FYI!
There are two methods of two-jaw surgery approved by the medical academy: Sagittal Split Ramus Osteotomy (SSRO) and Intraoral Vertical Ramus Osteotomy (IVRO). The specific method will be decided according to individual needs and symptoms through precise examination and treatment. Since there are pros and cons to each operation, Cinderella Clinic recommends the best of the two methods to our patients based on each individual’s case.
Before
After
Sagittal Split Ramus Osteotomy (SSRO)
SSRO is a method of widening the cut section during bone resectioning. The jawbone is cut to fit the dental occlusion, and the separated jaws are fixed by fastening the position of the jaws.
SSRO fixes the bones firmly with retaining pins, and since the cutting section is wide, the site affixes rapidly and tightly to reduce recovery time. If you experience discomfort from the pins, they can be removed 6 months after the surgery.
Before
After
Intraoral Vertical Ramus Osteotomy (IVRO)
IVRO is a surgical procedure that cuts the chin tip vertically. After removing the incised bones, the remaining cut sections are attached to each other. The adhesive side should fit precisely without error and the jaw will move inward by the length of the removed section. IVRO does not need fastening as the treatment utilizes the natural resilience of the human body.
When the bone is cut, a soft, gelatinous tissue called "bone marrow", which serves to attach the bone to the cut section, is produced and the bone is firmly affixed. When the bone marrows are produced, the teeth are set in a fixed position without movement to allow the bones to knit together.
SSRO
IVRO
Duration of operation
Operating time is relatively longer than the IVRO.
Operating time is relatively shorter than SSRO.
Jawbone fixation
Fixed by using fastening pins
No fixation
Remarks
The wider contact surface between bones allows for stable healing.
Shortens the operation time, as there is no complete fastening of the mouth.
Able to form the shape of jawbone in the early stage.
Delicacy is required as the surgery is performed in proximity to nerve.
Applicable to the improvement of the short chin.
Eliminates jaw joint disease or pain.
Almost no damage to the lower jaw.
Requires roughly two weeks to tie the upper/lower jaws.
Requires a physical therapy period to restore the functional recovery of the lower jawbone.
The overlapping area of the backbone might feel like it has thickened.
Not applicable to the improvement of the short chin.
Functional recovery
Early function of the lower jawbone is possible.
The entire recovery period for the function of the lower jaw is faster than the SSRO.
Recovery period
Longer than IVRO
Shorter than the SSRO
Cinderella's 4D Balance Two-jaw Surgery™ Process
01. First day of the visit
1
Consultation with a specialist
A thorough consultation with a specialist and a consultant will take place to understand the patient's needs and psychological state.
2
Methodical examination
On the day of surgery, preoperative examination such as blood tests, chest X-ray, and electrocardiogram are performed prior to the surgery. After face photography and the preoperative examination, we make a dental plaster model of the shape of your teeth and diagnose precisely.
3
Surgery plan
Based on the dental plaster model, a surgical plan and schedule will be set with the specialist to ensure appropriate, suitable surgery methods.
02. Surgery preparation
1
Wafer fabrication
We prepare a surgical wafer to maintain pre- and post-operative dental occlusion. Cinderella Clinic produces the wafer fast and precisely in the hospital-equipped laboratory.
2
Thorough mock surgery
In order to increase the accuracy of surgery, we measure and analyze facial bone structures, invisible nerves, and blood vessels with a 3D CT scan, virtual surgical prediction program, and 4D precision diagnostic systems.
3
Surgery Medical cooperation
We ensure safe procedures with lower risk through medical collaborative systems, e.g. Plastic Surgery, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics, Anesthesiology, and Otolaryngology.
03. Post-operative care
1
At Cinderella Clinic, instead of placing patients in a hospital ward immediately after two-jaw surgery, they are placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and get one-to-one intensive treatment to normalize their body rhythm. After thorough check-ups, the patients will be placed in the VIP ward privately. This allows the patient to be assured of safety after surgery and reliably receive professional nursing care.
